During July ‘22, I graduated from FADE (Fine Arts and Education) at the Maastricht Institute of Art. I had the opportunity to tell the story of my bundled artworks “Korenine”. It was such a fun experience and also really great to see that these artworks spoke to a lot of the visitors that came by.
Korenine (meaning roots) tells the story of my search for my Slovenian heritage. My grandmother, who was Slovenian, had just passed away, and I realized that we didn't actually know that much of Slovenia and the Slovenian culture. During the period of half a year, I did a lot of research about Slovenia, from folklore tales to old rituals. This resulted in a series of 12 small tapestries, which visualize my search for my Slovenian roots. I really loved working on my project, ‘cause it didn’t only bring me closer to myself, but it also made me learn a lot more about my own grandmother.
